About Seyda Bilikci, Practicum Student Counsellor
Seyda Bilikci (Master's degree in progress) is a counsellor-in-training completing the clinical practicum for her Master's degree under the clinical supervision of Shalene Takara, MA, RCC. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Mason University (Virginia, United States) and is currently completing a Master of Counselling degree at City University (Vancouver BC, Canada). Seyda utilizes evidence-based techniques to help her clients gain a broader insight of themselves and their problems, process their emotions, and gain skills to utilize new strategies to manage the challenges they are facing. Currently, she is receiving training in CBT for depression from Beck Institute and Gottman Marriage and Couples Therapy from Gottman Institute, as well as Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). Her preferred therapy approaches include EFT (Emotionally focused therapy) for individuals (EFIT) and couples (EFCT), Cognitive-Behavioiral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Narrative Therapy, and Gottman marriage and couples therapy. Seyda is passionate about working with people of all ages and backgrounds who are experiencing a variety of distress, such as relationship problems, trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, loneliness, and feeling overwhelmed or “trapped”. She takes a person-centered and collaborative approach to support her clients on their journey towards greater well-being and helps them to facilitate positive change, process their trauma, grow, heal, and accomplish their goals while discovering their inner strengths and resilience. She believes that a genuine, positive therapy relationship is a crucial instrument for growth and healing and therefore strives to create a non-judgmental, empathetic, and culturally sensitive space that feels comfortable and safe for clients to share their feelings, thoughts, and unique experiences. She recognizes “one size does not fit all”, and tailors her approach and techniques to meet her clients’ individual needs. Her goal is to help clients create a well-balanced life and to help them learn to be their own therapist using the tools that they have gained through therapy. Seyda offers individual, couples and family therapy and may be booked for in-person, phone or video sessions. She speaks English and Turkish.
