For a decade, she dedicated her time to volunteering at schools and sports clubs, where she served as an executive member and the liaison with families of expatriates and immigrants. Her approach to counselling is primarily informed by Existential Therapy, in which therapists acknowledge human limitations and emphasize the self-construction of a meaningful life. She trained in existential therapy with Existential Therapist Emmy van Duerzen and also integrates theories and techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Psychodynamic psychology. Her clinical practice specializes in trauma-informed practice, anxiety and depression, relationships, grief and loss, and life transitions. Essay recognizes that throughout our lives, we all face challenges, hardships, and increasing uncertainties about the future. Sometimes these can be too difficult to navigate on our own, and clients might come to therapy feeling stuck and unsure of how to take stock of one's life situations. She works collaboratively with clients to acquire insights into the complexities of one's life problems, reconnect with oneself, and explore one's relationships with others and the world so that they can use their core values, personal strengths and resources to guide their choices and actions. She also works with partners, couples, and families, focusing on their sense of purpose, interpersonal relationships, and communication. Essay offers individual, couples and family therapy and may be booked for in-person, phone or video sessions. She speaks English and Mandarin.
